A 35-year-old unemployed man was arrested for allegedly attacking an e-hailing driver with a steering wheel lock in Johor Bahru, causing facial injuries
JOHOR BAHRU: An unemployed man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting an e-hailing driver with a steering wheel lock.
The 35-year-old suspect was detained after the 38-year-old victim suffered facial injuries in the attack on Jalan Lingkaran Dalam.
Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at around 2.21 pm on Saturday.
Preliminary investigations indicate the victim allegedly exited a petrol station recklessly, forcing the suspect to brake abruptly.
“The male suspect, unhappy with the situation, got out of his car and struck the victim in the face with a steering wheel lock,” Raub said in a statement.
The attack caused injuries to the left side of the victim’s face, for which he sought medical treatment.
The victim subsequently filed a police report on the same day.
Police arrested the suspect and seized the steering wheel lock believed to have been used in the incident.
“The suspect tested negative for drugs and had no prior criminal record,” Raub added.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
A seven-second video of the incident, showing an individual taking a steering wheel lock from a car boot and striking a vehicle, had earlier gone viral on social media.
