Federal and Sabah governments to jointly monitor key projects monthly

PM Anwar announces joint federal-state monthly monitoring of water, electricity and road projects in Sabah from January to speed up implementation

KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Government will begin joint monthly monitoring with the Sabah Government on all water, electricity and road projects in the state from January next year.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the new approach is crucial to resolve fundamental issues like water and electricity supply and poor road conditions without delay.

He said the monitoring will cover both Federal and state projects, including school repairs, village infrastructure, the Pan Borneo Highway and other critical upgrading works.

“I have proposed to the committee in the Prime Minister’s Department that beginning January, we will start joint monitoring of projects with the state government,” he said.

Anwar said this when speaking at the Sentuhan MADANI event at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) today.

He said the system, involving district officers and state and Federal development agencies, will ensure hundreds of planned projects are implemented faster.

The government’s priority is to ensure all development pledges are translated into real action and not remain as mere announcements.

He also stressed there should no longer be delays in approving Federal projects in the state.

Anwar said his post-election visit to Sabah allowed him to observe the ground situation and meet local leaders.

He said he chose to visit immediately after the election to dispel the perception that politicians become complacent after winning.

Instead, the government must demonstrate its commitment from the outset to work and fulfil the people’s mandate, he added. – Bernama
