Finas disburses RM1.51 million in screening incentives to 27 films

Finas has distributed RM1.51 million in screening incentives to 27 local films, bringing the total payout for 2025 to over RM3.25 million.

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (Finas) has distributed RM1.51 million in screening incentives to 27 local films.

Finas chairman Datuk Gerald Hans Isaac said the Incentive for Short Film Screenings (ITFC 2.0) reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the national film industry.

He said the incentive is based on a specific format and percentage assessment in accordance with the initiative’s standard operating procedures.

“This incentive has been channelled three times this year,” said Hans at a press conference after the presentation ceremony.

The first payout in April involved nine films and totalled RM613,702.13, followed by a second in September amounting to RM1,128,729.74 for 14 films.

Hans noted that not all countries provide such incentives, with some expressing jealousy towards Malaysia’s support for its creative industry.

He also revealed that the local film industry recorded a total collection of RM221.6 million from 71 local feature films screened this year under the Compulsory Screening Scheme.

This makes 2025 the highest collection year since the scheme was introduced.

“We will continue to implement targeted and high-impact incentive initiatives to ensure the industry develops sustainably, competitively and inclusively,” he said.

The ITFC is an initiative by the Ministry of Communications through Finas to assist and encourage local film production.
