A USIM student from Perak and a Sarawakian teacher clinched the national Quran recital titles, each winning RM20,000 and a Haj incentive
KUALA NERUS: A first-time national competitor has been crowned champion at the National Quran Recital Assembly 1447H/2026M.
Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia student Hasnul Taqiyuddin Cik Sazali, 25, secured the men’s title at the Gong Badak Indoor Stadium.
Representing Perak, he expressed surprise at beating 13 more experienced contestants. “I feel extremely grateful because this success was truly unexpected, especially given the intense competition,” he said.
He credited his father, a police officer, as his earliest teacher and inspiration. Hasnul Taqiyuddin aims to become a lecturer and prepare for international competitions.
The women’s category winner was Nur Syakura Mohamad Musa, 31, from Sarawak. A Supervisor of Quran Teachers, she triumphed on her sixth national-level attempt.
She attributed her success to perseverance and her family’s prayers. “It is true that hard work never betrays results,” Nur Syakura said.
Both winners received RM20,000 in cash and an additional RM10,000 for Haj expenses. They also won a trophy, a certificate, a gold bar, and a hotel stay.
