Flash floods hit i-City Mall after heavy rain

Heavy downpour causes flash flooding around Section 7 and Central i-City Mall in Shah Alam yesterday evening

PETALING JAYA: Several areas in Shah Alam were hit by flash floods yesterday evening following heavy rainfall that which also affected the state capital’s Section 26 and Kampung Melayu Subang.

The flooding impacted areas around Section 7, including the vicinity of Central i-City Mall, where rising water levels disrupted traffic flow around the shopping centre which included the Federal Highway. Social media users shared videos and updates showing how quickly the water accumulated in the area.

One netizen commented that just an hour of heavy rain was enough to cause flooding, expressing concern about what would happen if it rained continuously throughout the day.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) reportedly received an emergency call regarding the flash floods in Kampung Melayu Subang at 8.30pm, according to Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, Assistant Director of the Operations Division.

He confirmed that fire department personnel will continue conducting regular monitoring at affected locations to ensure residents’ safety remains a priority.
