Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari officially assumes role as youth and sports minister in Bangkok, pledging focus on athlete welfare and youth development.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Youth and Sports Ministry has officially transferred leadership from Hannah Yeoh to the newly-appointed Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.
The handover ceremony was conducted in Bangkok on the sidelines of the 33rd SEA Games Thailand 2025.
In a statement, the ministry said Yeoh expressed her appreciation to all staff, agencies, and stakeholders for their cooperation during her tenure.
She also voiced confidence in the new leadership to continue the national youth and sports development agenda.
Dr Mohammed Taufiq declared his commitment to continuing the ministry’s existing policies and programmes.
He emphasised a focus on athlete welfare, support for the Malaysian SEA Games contingent, and the empowerment of youth development.
The handover follows the Cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday.
Yeoh now holds the post of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories).
The ceremony was witnessed by the ministry’s secretary-general Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu and its top leadership.
Olympic Council of Malaysia president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria and the Malaysian SEA Games contingent in Bangkok also attended.
