Johor MB calls on entrepreneurs to upskill and reskill to compete globally through the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.

JOHOR BAHRU: All parties, especially entrepreneurs and traders, must enhance their skills and equip themselves with new competencies to compete globally and seize opportunities from the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi emphasised that upskilling and reskilling efforts are vital for ensuring Johor’s people can compete internationally alongside developed nations.

He stated that the JS-SEZ covers 3,500 square kilometres, which is four times larger than Singapore, and will focus on multiple sectors including manufacturing, logistics, retail, and tourism.

Many big brands will establish themselves in Johor, providing local entrepreneurs with significant potential for progress through various opportunities and incentives offered by MITI and MIDA.

Onn Hafiz made these remarks while speaking at the launch of the Johor Business Summit & Expo 2025 at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre.

He stressed that the state government can only showcase competitive entrepreneurs with high service quality to maintain foreign investor confidence.

Although the government provides numerous facilities and incentives, entrepreneurs must actively enhance their capabilities and resilience themselves.

The Menteri Besar warned against offering sub-standard entrepreneurs to investors, as this could lead to complaints and damage Johor’s business reputation.

He emphasised that there is no such thing as a free meal, requiring entrepreneurs to strive for improvement just as he strengthens his own leadership.

The two-day JBSE 2025 features a forum session bringing together industry experts, policymakers, and business leaders to discuss Johor’s business sector growth.

The exhibition includes 80 booths highlighting Johor-based suppliers, machinery, raw materials, packaging, and SMEs showcasing products under the ‘Meh Sapot Lokal’ campaign. – Bernama
