K-Spark mega concert at Stadium Merdeka featured G-Dragon, Hwasa, ITZY and DPR IAN, reinforcing Malaysia’s appeal as a key K-pop destination
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has reinforced its position as a premier destination for K-pop with the successful staging of the K-Spark mega concert.
Thousands of local and international fans filled Stadium Merdeka last Saturday for a stellar line-up featuring G-Dragon, Hwasa, ITZY and DPR IAN.
The event continued the strong momentum of Hallyu wave excitement following Super Junior’s concert at Axiata Arena last month.
Fans began gathering at the stadium grounds as early as 2pm, many dressed in outfits inspired by their idols for the 9pm show.
Organised by KLOOK Malaysia, the concert also provided a platform for local artistes, with Malaysian girl group Dolla honoured with opening the show.
The festive atmosphere continued with local content creator and dance group 3P performing their PA SANG Anthem.
JYP Entertainment’s ITZY then commanded the stage with high-impact songs including ‘Tunnel Vision’, ‘Imaginary Friend’, and ‘DALLA DALLA’.
“We are so happy to be in Malaysia. It’s been a long time. Did you miss us?” they said, prompting deafening cheers from the crowd.
DPR IAN shifted the concert’s tone with a performance that blurred music and visual art, delivering seven songs including ‘MOOD’ and ‘LIMBO’.
The crowd’s excitement intensified with the arrival of Hwasa, who captivated the audience with songs like ‘Chili’, ‘TWIT’, and ‘Maria’.
“This is my first time performing solo here. Let’s make tonight an unforgettable memory,” the Mamamoo member said.
The most anticipated moment arrived at 10.53pm when K-pop icon G-Dragon appeared on stage to thunderous screams.
The artist dominated the stage for nearly an hour with hits like ‘Home Sweet Home’, ‘Crayon’, and ‘Too Bad’.
He brought the concert to a close with ‘Crooked’ at 11.56pm, stating, “Don’t forget this moment. Tonight, we are all together in Malaysia. I love you.”
