Lazada, Berkat Madinah team up to aid 60,000 underprivileged families this Ramadan

KUALA LUMPUR: True to the spirit of Ramadan, eCommerce platform Lazada Malaysia has partnered with Berkat Madinah in support of Islamic Relief Malaysia’s goal to aid over 60,000 underprivileged families from vulnerable communities in Malaysia and around the world.

In a statement today, Lazada Malaysia said the LazadaForGood Ramadan initiative would benefit two of Islamic Relief Malaysia’s programmes this year, including Rezeki Ramadan campaign, which targets to collect RM2.4 million in donations through the partnership and distribute 12,000 food packs to communities in need.

The non-profit organisation is also aiming to raise RM3 million for its mySedekah campaign which provides aid in sectors such as food, emergency, water, livelihood, health, education and sanitation.

It said through this campaign, the first 1,000 customers who donate a minimum of RM100 to Islamic Relief Malaysia in a single transaction through the LazadaForGood platform would receive one box of Berkat Madinah dates, while donations of RM300 and RM500 will be eligible for five and 10 boxes of dates respectively.

Lazada Malaysia chief operating officer Darren Rajaratnam said the company appreciates such collaborative efforts to help families in need to buka puasa and continues to support Malaysian community during Ramadan and these extraordinary times.

Islamic Relief Malaysia, in a statement, said the Rezeki Ramadan is one of the programmes most awaited by beneficiaries every year.

Last year, Islamic Relief distributed food packs for 989,912 beneficiaries across the globe, of which Islamic Relief Malaysia helped 79,543 individuals in 37 countries with 17,029 food packs using Malaysian donations.

“With the pandemic taking such a big toll on the economy, those in underprivileged communities are especially in need of assistance this year, and being able to use Lazada’s large platform to support our fundraising has been a blessing, and we look forward to making a difference in the lives of even more individuals in need, together,” it said.

Berkat Madinah said: “We were very pleased when Lazada Malaysia approached us with this partnership idea. The Muslim community has been a large and loyal part of our customer base, especially during Ramadan, when they visit our stores to purchase the traditional dates for their friends and families for the breaking of fast.”

The partnership would also benefit Lazada’s delivery heroes with free boxes of dates for their buka puasa throughout the fasting month as part of efforts to support all its riders who have tirelessly supported the community by ensuring the delivery of packages even during Ramadan.

“Our men and women are on ground every day, making sure Malaysians are getting the items they need safely and on time, rain or shine. Throughout Ramadan, our Muslim riders remain at their post to carry out their duties so admirably – truly our frontline heroes,” said Olivier Petra, chief logistics officer of Lazada Malaysia.

Those interested in supporting Islamic Relief Malaysia’s missions on the LazadaForGood platform can visit Islamic Relief Malaysia’s donation page on Lazada’s website and its app, or visit the LazadaForGood page to find out more about the other causes the platform is supporting. — Bernama
