SUBANG JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has completed its investigation into businessman Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, who is the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the investigation is now awaiting the next course of action.

He stated that all witness statements related to the corruption and misappropriation probe involving a ministry project have been recorded.

“The investigation is complete,” Azam told reporters after the 21st ASEAN Parties Against Corruption Principals Meeting.

“The only thing left is for him to return to Malaysia because all the witnesses have given their statements.”

Azam revealed that MACC is currently tracing assets owned by Muhammad Adlan abroad.

He acknowledged that this process is complex and time-consuming as it involves cooperation with foreign authorities.

The investigation into identified assets will continue only if they are directly linked to the case under probe.

Azam noted they have no confirmation on whether Muhammad Adlan is using proxies for his assets.

“We believe he has assets overseas,” he said.

“Otherwise, how could he afford to live there?”

MACC is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police and the Home Ministry to locate Muhammad Adlan.

His passport has been revoked by the Immigration Department, but he may have travelled abroad using other travel documents.

Earlier reports stated that MACC is seeking Muhammad Adlan and lawyer Mansoor Saat to assist in investigations.

The probe relates to alleged misappropriation of a ministry project involving foreign workers’ biometric data.

On the ASEAN-PAC meeting, Azam said it provided Malaysia with the opportunity to play a leading role in strengthening regional anti-corruption efforts.

As meeting chair, Malaysia guided discussions among 12 member countries addressing corruption challenges.

The meeting approved the ASEAN-PAC Action Plan for presentation at the Conference of State Parties in Doha.

Malaysia will continue to chair ASEAN-PAC until November next year before handing over to Myanmar.

The focus remains on fostering a corruption-free youth generation as future leaders. – Bernama
