MACC freezes RM4 million in land misappropriation probe

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission freezes 10 bank accounts worth RM4 million linked to a land misappropriation case in Selangor.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has frozen 10 bank accounts containing an estimated RM4 million. The accounts are linked to an ongoing investigation into alleged land misappropriation in Selangor.

Sources said the freeze order, executed by the Selangor MACC, targeted four company accounts and accounts belonging to four individuals. The action was taken on Monday.

The frozen assets include two unit trust accounts worth about RM2.6 million. Several other company and individual savings accounts totalling about RM1 million were also seized.

Investigators are now focusing on allegations of abuse of power and fraud. The case is being probed under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

A company director, who was also a trustee for an eight-acre plantation land in Hulu Selangor, was remanded yesterday. The five-day remand order lasts until Monday in connection with the same case.

So far, MACC officers have recorded statements from 24 individuals. The commission is still tracking down other witnesses to assist with the investigation.

Selangor MACC director Mohd Azwan Ramli confirmed the matter when contacted.
