Perlis Islamic council disburses RM8.4 million to 12,057 needy students, providing RM700 each for uniforms, programmes and cash to ease parental burden.
KANGAR: The Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) has channelled RM8.4 million in school aid to benefit 12,057 students from asnaf families across the state.
MAIPs chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor said RM3.2 million was allocated to secondary school students and RM5.2 million for primary school students.
Each student received RM700, structured as RM300 for uniforms and stationery, RM300 for educational programmes, and RM100 in cash.
“This structured distribution aims to ensure that the basic needs of schooling, the development of academic potential, and the character building of asnaf students are strengthened comprehensively,” he said.
A total of 4,582 secondary school students and 7,475 primary school students have benefitted from the assistance.
The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, officiated the symbolic handover of the aid recently.
Mohd Nazim said the aid was channelled through strategic cooperation between MAIPs and the State Education Department.
Proposals from school managements were verified via an online information system to ensure a transparent selection process.
He said the school aid reflected MAIPs’ continued commitment to the educational welfare of underprivileged students.
The assistance is intended to help ease their parents’ burden amid rising schooling costs.
“MAIPs is optimistic that this effort will continue to strengthen the education in Perlis while ensuring that the welfare and future of asnaf children are safeguarded,” he added.
Meanwhile, MAIPs has appointed Muraqib Amil teachers to help identify eligible asnaf students.
This ensures their welfare is effectively safeguarded and the aid distribution process is streamlined.
