Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan slams Israel’s “immoral” closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan, calling for immediate reopening for Muslim worshippers.
SEREMBAN: Malaysia has condemned Israel’s move to close the Al-Aqsa Mosque as an “immoral and most heinous act”.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the closure prevents Muslims from performing prayers at one of Islam’s holiest sites, especially during Ramadan.
“This is an immoral and most heinous act, as it prevents Muslims from accessing a place of worship,” he told reporters after an event here.
He stressed that the action occurred while Palestinians continue to face violence and the killing of innocent civilians.
Mohamad called for Israel to immediately reopen the mosque to allow Muslims, particularly Palestinians, to perform prayers.
The call includes enabling obligatory prayers, tarawih, and the upcoming Aidilfitri prayers at the site.
Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry also issued a separate statement strongly condemning the Israeli regime’s actions.
It said the restrictions on access to Jerusalem’s Old City and its places of worship violate international law.
The ministry added that the measures breach longstanding arrangements governing Jerusalem’s holy sites.
Meanwhile, foreign ministers from eight nations, including Indonesia, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, issued a joint statement.
They urged Israel to immediately stop closing the entrances to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
The ministers also condemned continued restrictions preventing Muslim access, particularly during Ramadan.
