Malaysia supports Pakistan’s mediation for West Asia peace

Malaysia backs Pakistan’s efforts to mediate West Asia tensions, with PM Anwar Ibrahim calling for all initiatives to end bloodshed and restore stability

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia maintains that any initiative aimed at ending bloodshed and restoring stability in West Asia should be fully supported, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said the stance was conveyed during a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif today.

He said Malaysia also welcomed Pakistan’s mediation efforts to ease tensions in the region, including initiatives to bring together relevant stakeholders.

“We also took the opportunity to exchange Aidilfitri greetings while praying for peace, prosperity and well-being for the people of both countries,” he said.

Yesterday, Anwar said in a video that Malaysia welcomed Pakistan’s offer to host dialogue between the United States (US) and Iran, describing it as timely and constructive amid escalating tensions.

In the video, Anwar also commended Shehbaz and other leaders, including those from Oman, for facilitating diplomatic efforts.
