KUALA LUMPUR: All personnel from the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) 850-13 are confirmed safe following explosions near their United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) operating area.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the incidents occurred in south Lebanon amid ongoing tensions between the Israel Defence Forces and Hezbollah.

“The Defence Ministry, through the Joint Forces Headquarters, is constantly monitoring the latest developments,” he said in a statement.

He added that the safety of MALBATT personnel remains the ministry’s top priority.

The UNIFIL Headquarters in Naqoura is also monitoring the situation and has instructed all peacekeeping teams to remain vigilant.

Additional security measures have been implemented, including scheduled patrols and enhanced communications between units.

Mohamed Khaled stated that MALBATT 850-13 continues to execute its duties in assigned areas with a high state of readiness.

“We will continue to monitor the current situation and work closely with UNIFIL,” he said.

The minister affirmed the commitment to ensure personnel safety while continuing mandated peacekeeping tasks.
