Domestic Trade Minister defends MyCC’s enforcement record, citing RM550 million penalties on chicken feed cartels and action against bid-rigging cases.
KUALA LUMPUR: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has dismissed allegations that the Malaysia Competition Commission focuses only on less critical technical issues.
He said MyCC concentrates its investigations on three main cartel types: bid rigging in government procurement, food and agricultural product cartels, and essential consumer service cartels.
“For price-fixing cartels, the commission has taken stern action, including against five companies involved in chicken feed production, with financial penalties amounting to RM550.13 million,” he told the Dewan Rakyat.
Armizan said MyCC has also acted against 150 flower sellers in Cameron Highlands, 24 ice manufacturers in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, seven tuition and daycare operators, and 22 general insurance companies.
For bid-rigging cartels, MyCC took action against eight IT vendors involved in procurement at ASWARA and seven suppliers of lifesaving equipment in Royal Malaysian Navy procurement.
The commission also acted against eight contractors in Public Works Department and Irrigation and Drainage Department projects, plus three facility management contractors involved in Perbadanan Putrajaya procurement.
These cases involved procurement worth RM539.7 million, with total penalties imposed amounting to RM97.3 million.
Additionally, MyCC penalised a company RM9.6 million for abusing its dominant position in the foreign worker temporary work visit pass insurance market.
Meanwhile, Armizan reported that RON95 fuel misappropriation cases have declined following the BUDI MADANI RON95 programme implementation.
Monitoring through the Subsidised Petrol Control System shows 61 cases involving 17,724 litres seized between September 30 and October 29, 2025.
This compares to 71 cases and 32,229 litres seized between August 31 and September 29 this year. – Bernama
