National unity minister calls for harmony in Chap Goh Mei message

Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang urges Malaysians to safeguard unity and respect diversity as a national asset, emphasising shared responsibility for harmony.

KUALA LUMPUR: National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has extended Chap Goh Mei greetings to the Chinese community while urging all Malaysians to continue safeguarding national unity and harmony.

In a Facebook post, he stated that Chap Goh Mei is not merely the closing of the Chinese New Year celebration but symbolises hope, love and togetherness for everyone.

He noted that in Malaysia, every festive occasion provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen bonds, bridge differences and reinforce shared family values across all races and religions.

“The diversity we possess is an invaluable national asset that must be preserved with wisdom and sincerity,” he said in his message.

Aaron stressed that religious and racial sensitivities must never be politicised or exploited to create division within the nation.

He added that sustaining harmony requires all Malaysians to actively seek common ground while upholding mutual understanding and respect at all times.

This important effort includes making a conscious attempt to understand any issue fully before speaking and to respect others sincerely before taking action.

“A united nation is strong, stable and trusted, with unity itself being a shared responsibility for every citizen,” he concluded.
