National Unity Week 2026 expected to draw 250,000 visitors

An estimated 250,000 visitors are expected to attend the National Unity Week 2026 celebration in Kota Kinabalu, officiated by the prime minister.

KOTA KINABALU: An estimated 250,000 visitors are expected to attend the National Unity Week 2026 Celebration at the Likas Stadium grounds here from June 11 to 14.

In a statement today, the National Unity Ministry (KPN) said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the event, themed “Bersama Membina Negara Bangsa” on June 13.

Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the celebration serves as an important platform to strengthen unity by bringing together Malaysians from diverse ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds in the spirit of togetherness.

“When the values of mutual respect, understanding and acceptance of diversity are nurtured within communities, they become a strong foundation for building a united, harmonious and prosperous nation,” he said.

Aaron added that unity fostered at the grassroots level would ultimately become a key strength in ensuring the country’s stability, progress and prosperity.

According to the ministry, more than 50 activities have been lined up throughout the four-day celebration, including the Rumah KAMI Exhibition, showcasing the unique heritage of 15 ethnic groups such as the Kadazan, Rungus, Murut, Chetti, Portuguese, Iban, Orang Ulu and Bajau communities.

Visitors can also explore ethnic villages, exhibitions, Rahmah Sales and security asset displays.

The celebration will also feature interactive activities for young visitors, alongside entertainment programmes including the Sabah Idol Competition, Ratu Perpaduan pageant, Creative Ethnic Dance Competition and the Malam Unity Sama-Sama Concert.

The ministry has encouraged the public, particularly Sabahans, to attend, with admission free of charge.
