Patriotic programmes prove highly effective, says Fahmi

Communications Ministry reports 91% effectiveness rate for patriotic programmes, with National Day drawing over 100,000 visitors to Putrajaya.

KUALA LUMPUR: Nationhood and patriotic programmes organised by the Communications Ministry have proven highly effective in strengthening Malaysians’ love for the nation.

Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said an Information Department study involving 5,044 respondents showed a 91% effectiveness rate equivalent to a mean score of 4.55 on the Likert scale.

“The overall analysis shows that the programmes held in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day have not only succeeded in enhancing the spirit of nationhood and patriotism but also fostered pride and affection for the country across all segments of society,” he told Parliament.

Fahmi revealed the National Day celebration in Putrajaya on August 31 attracted more than 100,000 visitors, including overnight campers in Precincts 2 and 3.

He emphasised that patriotic spirit should extend beyond August and September to become part of daily life.

The Information Department has introduced year-round initiatives including the Info on Wheels programme and modular Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang tour.

Patriotic activities in educational institutions and digital content development aim to engage younger generations.

Regarding incidents of inverted flags and AI-generated visual errors involving the Jalur Gemilang, Fahmi attributed these to mechanical negligence requiring collective correction.

“Perhaps the prompts used and the resulting images need to be improved, and at the community level, we have held explanatory sessions and modules to raise awareness,” he said.

On patriotism among Generations Z and Alpha, Fahmi said message delivery must align with their media consumption habits and information-receiving patterns.

“They may no longer read newspapers, as most of them are on social media, so we may need to focus on that medium to convey such messages,” he added. – Bernama
