Father reports son over alleged 3R social media post

A father lodged a police report against his son for allegedly posting 3R content online, leading to the student’s arrest and remand for investigation.

KUANTAN: A father has filed a police report against his own son over an alleged social media post touching on sensitive 3R issues.

The 50-year-old man brought his 21-year-old son, a university student, to a police station early this morning to lodge the report.

Kuantan district police chief ACP Ashari Abu Samah said the complainant also came to apologise to Muslims and expressed concern for his son’s safety.

“The complainant came to the police station with his son to apologise to Muslims and expressed concern for his son’s safety following the post made on the social media platform,” Ashari stated.

Police believe the suspect uploaded an image deemed insulting to the Quran on his Threads account.

The young man was subsequently arrested and remanded for four days starting today to assist with the investigation.

The case is being probed under Section 298 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

Ashari advised the public to remain calm and avoid taking matters into their own hands.

He warned that such actions could disrupt public order.
