Federal government continues talks with Terengganu over FELDA land dispute

The federal government is in ongoing discussions with Terengganu and FELDA to resolve a dispute involving 10 plantations covering 15,000 hectares

PUTRAJAYA: The federal government will continue discussions with the Terengganu state government and the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) to resolve a dispute over 10 plantations.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said all parties agreed on the need for talks during a meeting yesterday.

“So we are following the process before we make any decisions,” said Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman.

He indicated the matter may be raised at an upcoming Cabinet meeting by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Fahmi stated there are currently no discussions involving the state government and the Cabinet on the issue.

The Terengganu government recently issued notices prohibiting trespass on FELDA-operated land across 10 plantations.

The action involves approximately 15,000 hectares of land in several districts.

The state claims the land has been developed for over 40 years without payment of premiums, taxes, or profit shares.

Notices were served to plantation managements in Setiu, Besut, Kemaman, Marang, Dungun, and Hulu Terengganu. – Bernama
