Firefighters rescue 350kg teacher from home in Alor Gajah

A 40-year-old teacher weighing 350kg was transported to hospital by firefighters in a 20-minute operation from his Kuala Sungai Baru home.

ALOR GAJAH: Firefighters were called to assist in transporting a 40-year-old teacher weighing 350 kilogrammes to hospital from his home here early today.

The Melaka Fire and Rescue Department said the man was in a weak condition inside a bathroom at his Kuala Sungai Baru residence.

Department public relations officer Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said the operation took about 20 minutes due to the confined space.

The Masjid Tanah Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call from the victim’s wife at 2.56 am, with the team arriving at the scene by 3.08 am.

“The wife tried to help him get out of the bathroom, but to no avail, leading to her calling the department for assistance,” he said in a statement.

He added that the wife reported her husband had been suffering from a fever for over a week and was on medical leave at home.

Eight firefighters were involved in the operation to calm and move the victim, who was experiencing pain from a leg bacterial infection and asthma.

The teacher was subsequently taken to Alor Gajah Hospital in a fire department vehicle.
