Flood evacuees increase in Terengganu, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang, while Perak, Kedah, Perlis and Kelantan see numbers decline as river levels fluctuate.
KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees continued to rise in Terengganu, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang this afternoon.
In Terengganu, evacuees increased to 6,335 people from 1,913 families, up from 5,009 people at noon.
A total of 96 relief centres are operating across eight affected districts.
Eleven rivers in the state have exceeded the danger level, including Sungai Dungun in Kuala Jengai and Sungai Marang at the Pengkalan Berangan Bridge.
Selangor recorded 3,125 evacuees from 838 families, housed at 21 centres across five districts.
Negeri Sembilan’s evacuees rose to 156 people from 47 families at four relief centres.
Pahang saw numbers increase to 1,066 people from 333 families, with Kuantan recording the highest number at 401 evacuees.
Three rivers in Pahang have exceeded danger levels, including Sungai Luit in Kampung Subuh and Sungai Pahang in Kuala Tembeling.
Meanwhile, Perak recorded a decline to 5,503 evacuees from 1,663 families.
Manjung district continues to host the highest number with 2,273 people at 18 centres.
Kedah’s evacuees dropped to 4,280 people from 1,367 families, with Kubang Pasu recording the most at 2,286 people.
Four rivers in Kedah remain above danger levels, including Sungai Anak Bukit and Sungai Padang Terap.
Perlis saw evacuees decrease to 7,345 people housed at 24 centres across three districts.
Kelantan recorded 3,484 evacuees from 1,259 families, down from 4,767 people at noon.
Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang rose to 10.84 metres, surpassing the 9-metre danger level.
Several stations along Sungai Kelantan also recorded alarming readings, with Kuala Krai at 22.45 metres, just below the warning level.
Melaka is also dealing with the flood, with four relief centres opened today in Alor Gajah district, with the first housing 20 evacuees from four families.
So far, 13 areas have been reported inundated, including Masjid Tanah town, Kampung Paya Lebar, and Bukit Balai.
