Flood situation improves in Perak, remains stable in Sarawak

Flood evacuees in Perak drop to 19 as waters recede, while Sarawak’s count holds at 140 across three relief centres.

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Perak has improved significantly. The number of evacuees in Hilir Perak has dropped to 19 people from five families.

This is down from 83 evacuees from 23 families reported this morning. Only one temporary relief centre remains open at the Kampung Padang Tembak community hall.

The multipurpose hall at Hilir Perak district police headquarters was fully closed at 3 pm today. It had previously sheltered 14 evacuees from three families.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts rain tonight in Hilir Perak, Kinta and Kampar districts.

Meanwhile, the situation in Sarawak remains unchanged. The number of evacuees at three relief centres in Miri stood at 140 people as of 4 pm today.

This figure comprises 136 flood evacuees and four landslide victims. The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee secretariat provided the breakdown.

A total of 109 flood evacuees are still housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Suai Niah. Another 23 are at SK Kampung Angus.

Additionally, four flood evacuees and four landslide victims are placed at the Red Crescent Hall relief centre.
