Floodwaters have receded in Kota Marudu and Pitas, leaving only Paitan district with 270 evacuees as relief centres in the other two districts close.

KOTA KINABALU: Flood conditions in Kota Marudu and Pitas districts have fully recovered, leaving only 270 people from 82 families still displaced in Paitan district as of 4 pm today.

This marks a significant drop from the 1,020 people from 502 families recorded across the three districts at 8 am earlier today.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat confirmed in a statement that all temporary relief centres in Kota Marudu and Pitas were closed this afternoon.

The Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tandek 2 and SMK Tandek relief centres in Kota Marudu were officially closed at 2 pm.

The relief centre at Dewan Sinukab in Pitas was subsequently closed at 3 pm.

JPBN stated that Paitan is now the only district still affected by floods in the state, involving 26 villages.

The affected residents are currently taking shelter at four relief centres, namely the Batagon Darat Community Centre, PCS Purubatu Church Hall, Surau Nur Hikmah Kampung Kaindangan and Dewan SK Lubang Buaya.
