Floodwaters have fully receded in Negeri Sembilan, while the number of evacuees continues to drop in seven other affected states across Malaysia.
KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation across Malaysia showed significant improvement on Monday afternoon, with one state fully cleared and others seeing a sharp drop in evacuees.
All temporary relief centres in Negeri Sembilan were officially closed at 10 am after the last evacuees returned home.
State Civil Defence Force director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Nazri Mes Kam confirmed the situation had fully receded.
In Perak, the number of evacuees fell to 3,837 individuals from 1,156 families housed at 21 centres.
This was down from 4,766 people this morning.
Selangor also saw positive progress, with evacuees decreasing to 2,224 people from 613 families.
One relief centre in the state was closed, leaving 29 still operating across four districts.
The number of flood victims in Perlis dropped to 1,387 people in the afternoon from 2,523 this morning.
Two relief centres were closed, with 10 remaining operational.
In Terengganu, evacuee numbers in Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus and Setiu fell sharply to 511 people from 178 families.
All relief centres in Dungun, Kemaman, Marang and Hulu Terengganu have been closed.
Kelantan recorded a total of 353 evacuees from 129 families in Pasir Mas this afternoon, down from 894 this morning.
The state has so far recorded two flood-related fatalities, including one non-citizen.
Pahang’s evacuee count declined to 289 people from 79 families.
However, the water level of Sungai Pahang remains above the danger mark at several locations.
In Kedah, the number of flood evacuees dropped slightly to 219 people from 64 families as of 4 pm.
All evacuees from the Kubang Pasu district are housed at two relief centres.
