Flood victims in Sabah rise to 4,458 as of 4 pm

The number of flood victims in Sabah increased to 4,458 people from 1,505 families, housed across 22 relief centres in five districts.

KOTA KINABALU: The number of flood victims in Sabah has risen to 4,458 people as of 4 pm today. This marks an increase from the 3,617 individuals recorded at noon.

All victims, comprising 1,505 families, are currently being housed at 22 relief centres operating across five districts. The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat provided the update in a statement.

Tenom district continues to record the highest number of victims, with the total increasing to 2,406 people from 795 families. All victims in Tenom are sheltering at 13 relief centres.

The number of victims in Beaufort also increased to 1,231 people from 384 families. They are placed at the Selagon Permanent Relief Centre, the Banir State Constituency Hall, and the newly opened Bisaya Arts and Culture Hall.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in three other districts showed no change in victim numbers compared to the noon update. Sipitang remains with 421 victims from 176 families.

Membakut has 321 victims from 125 families, while Sook has 79 victims from 25 families. Overall, the number of villages affected by the floods across the five districts remained at 146.

No casualties have been reported so far.
