A 78-year-old German tourist collapsed and died during a snorkelling trip in Pulau Sakar waters near Lahad Datu this morning.

LAHAD DATU: A German tourist died after collapsing while snorkelling in Pulau Sakar waters here this morning.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Lahad Datu Maritime Zone director, Maritime Commander Dzulfikhar Ali, said Kenneth Ray Crouse, 78, was pronounced dead at Lahad Datu Hospital.

“The Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Operations Centre received information on the incident at 11.20 am, and a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation was coordinated.

“At the scene, the victim was assisted with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by his friend before patrol boat Cenderawasih 02 transported him to the Fisheries Jetty. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital,” he said in a statement today.

Dzulfikhar advised the public to prioritise safety when carrying out activities at sea and to immediately report any maritime emergencies or crimes.

He said the public could contact the Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Operations Centre via WhatsApp at 016-9305727 or the MERS 999 emergency line for immediate assistance.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has confirmed Malaysia's contingents for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, following its 216th Executive Council Meeting and 45th Annual General Assembly.Malaysia will send a 104-member delegation to the XXIII Commonwealth Games in Scotland from July 23 to Aug 2, comprising 59 athletes and 45 officials.The squad will feature 37 able-bodied athletes and 22 para-athletes competing in eight of the 10 sports on the programme.Two-time Paralympic long jump gold medallist Datuk Abdul Latif Romly has been named Malaysia's flag bearer for the opening ceremony, while world No. 1 lawn bowler Emma Firyana Saroji will carry the King's Baton.
