Government assistance for those over 30 to continue despite new youth age limit

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh assures that government aid for people aged 30 and above will continue after the youth age limit is lowered to 30

KUALA LUMPUR: Government assistance for individuals aged 30 and above will continue despite an amendment lowering the official youth age limit to 30.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh confirmed the Cabinet has approved a memorandum to coordinate support for this group post-enforcement of the new age limit.

The amendment to the Youth Societies and Youth Development Act 2019 will take effect on January 1.

“Even though they will no longer be classified as youth, we will ensure that the assistance reaches them,” Yeoh told the Dewan Rakyat.

She cited the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, which offers various grants still accessible to those over 30.

Special grants for young farmers in the agricultural sector will also be maintained to aid their development.

Yeoh was responding to a supplementary question from Syahredzan Johan during the parliamentary session.

The approved memorandum aims to ensure a smooth transition and continued access to existing government programmes. – Bernama
