Johor floods return as six evacuation centres open in Segamat

Floods hit Johor again, forcing 103 victims into six temporary evacuation centres in Segamat as two rivers exceed danger levels.

JOHOR BAHRU: Floods have returned to Johor, affecting the Segamat district and prompting the opening of six temporary evacuation centres.

As of 10 pm, the centres were housing 103 victims from 32 families displaced by the rising waters.

State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman detailed the locations in a statement.

The opened centres include the Kampung Batu Badak Community Hall, which is housing 40 victims from 12 families.

Other centres are the Kampung Tasek Multipurpose Hall, the Kampung Jabi Community Hall, and the Kampung Paya Lebar Community Hall.

Also operational are the Pekan Air Panas Multipurpose Hall and the Kampung Orang Asli Segamat Kecil Multipurpose Hall.

All six centres began operations at 8 pm following rising river water levels.

Two rivers have surpassed the danger level, according to the JPBN chairman.

Sungai Muar in Kampung Awat, Segamat, recorded a reading of 20 meters.

Sungai Kesang in Kampung Seri Maamor, Tangkak, recorded a reading of 4.11 meters.

Meanwhile, weather conditions in all districts in Johor have been reported as clear.

The exception is Mersing, which is experiencing rain.
