Kelantan flood monitoring intensified as evacuees rise to 5,394

Kelantan flood situation remains controlled with 5,394 evacuees at relief centres as fire department rescues 78 victims in 12-hour operation

KELANTAN: The flood situation in Kelantan remains under control despite increasing evacuation numbers, according to state Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Aswafaizole Abdul Wahab.

A total of 5,394 evacuees are currently sheltering at 26 relief centres as of 3.21 pm based on Social Welfare Department data.

The department remains on high alert and continues to intensify monitoring and rescue operations in high-risk areas.

“Since the state operations room opened at 8 pm last night, the fire brigade has rescued 78 victims within 12 hours following rising water levels in several districts,” Aswafaizole said.

All victims were rescued after floodwaters entered their homes, with fire and rescue teams responding immediately to every emergency call.

Aswafaizole advised the public to stay updated on weather conditions and water levels through official government social media channels.

He urged residents to comply immediately with any evacuation orders issued by authorities.

The state operations room activated last night is now manned by more than five personnel under senior officer supervision.

“This team is responsible for monitoring weather developments, coordinating asset and response team movements, and managing emergency calls across the state,” he added. – Bernama
