Sabah MACC recommends five governance improvements for the RMSMJ housing programme after finding unoccupied and misused homes.
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has proposed five governance improvements for the Sabah Maju Jaya Friendly Homes (RMSMJ) programme.
This follows preliminary investigations that uncovered cases of unoccupied and misused houses. Sabah MACC director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah said some recipients did not reside in the houses provided and had rented them out to third parties.
The recommendations have been submitted to the Sabah Rural Development Ministry (KPLB). They include tightening eligibility criteria to require applicants to be heads of household.
Other proposals involve rejecting applications from individuals with a source of income. The MACC also recommends prohibiting the transfer of RMSMJ ownership except in cases of inheritance.
A standardised RMSMJ application form is another key proposal. Mohd Fuad added that Sabah MACC recommended establishing a monitoring mechanism before, during and after construction.
The final recommendation is to include a reminder clause on Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 in the application form.
