Madani govt approves RM123 million for non-Muslim houses of worship

The government has allocated over RM123 million for 1,048 non-Islamic houses of worship nationwide, supporting restoration and community unity

IPOH: The MADANI Government has approved more than RM123 million for the maintenance and restoration of non-Islamic houses of worship across the country.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the allocation of RM123,716,331.27 was for 1,048 projects as of last December.

He stated the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to inclusivity, unity in diversity, and social harmony.

“Houses of worship are not merely physical structures but centres for nurturing noble values, national unity and community well-being,” Nga said in a statement.

“No house of worship should be left in disrepair or neglected, as every community deserves access to safe, decent and comfortable facilities.”

A specific example is a Chinese Methodist Church in Taiping, which received RM250,000 for restoration work.

The 121-year-old historical site, originally built in 1905, is the country’s first Methodist prayer nest located at Bukit Larut.

Nga said the funds were used to replace damaged flooring, construct a new ceiling, and repair electrical wiring and paintwork.

The minister concluded a working visit to Taiping by inspecting the upgraded Medan Siang Malam.

The site is now promoted as a top tourist spot for sampling local delicacies.
