PUCHONG: A total of 103,500 personnel and more than 34,000 assets are ready for the Northeast Monsoon expected from November 6 to March 26, 2026.

National Disaster Management Agency director-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah detailed the extensive preparations during a media engagement session.

The personnel include 20,600 police officers, 15,640 firefighters, and 15,390 civil defence force members.

Authorities have identified 3,683 locations as flood hotspots nationwide.

Peninsular Malaysia contains 2,987 of these hotspots spread across 91 districts.

Pahang, Kelantan, Sabah, and Terengganu are the states with the most flood-prone areas.

All potentially affected roads in several states have been identified by Public Works Departments.

Precautionary measures are already implemented to ensure high preparedness levels.

The presentation also covered disaster-risk areas including potential landslide sites.

Bailey bridges will be distributed to urgent areas for emergency access.

Nationwide temporary evacuation centres can accommodate more than two million disaster victims.

Schools comprise 59% of these centres followed by public halls at 20%.

Community halls account for 10% while mosques and suraus make up 4% and 3% respectively.

Food distribution includes 60,000 food kits and 110,000 retort meals allocated for the season.

First-phase disaster response will mobilise 23,600 food kits and 20,570 retort meals to all states.

The government has implemented major operational improvements for monsoon response.

Standing Operating Guidelines have been re-established for better coordination.

Charitable fund distribution will be faster through the MyIBJKM application with Bank Simpanan Nasional.

This new system enables aid distribution completion within just one week.

Police will hold press conferences within two hours of disaster incidents.

Disaster operations commanders are authorised to provide timely public updates.

The public is advised against spreading false news to maintain order during the monsoon season.– Bernama
