KPKT implements RV park pilot projects in Rompin and Sepang to test new planning guidelines, with three more locations identified nationwide
KUALA LUMPUR: The government is implementing several proof-of-concept projects for recreational vehicle parks at selected locations nationwide to gauge the effectiveness of new planning guidelines.
Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said the initiative aligns with growing interest in RV tourism and the need for dedicated spaces and facilities.
She confirmed the ministry’s guidelines for RV parks received Cabinet approval on October 8 last year and serve as a comprehensive reference for all parties involved in RV site development.
“The guidelines also take into account the interests of all stakeholders, including RV users, operators, site developers, local authorities and regulatory agencies,” she told the Dewan Rakyat.
Aiman Athirah was responding to Kalam Salan who asked about government efforts to strengthen RV-based tourism including park development for domestic and international travellers.
She revealed two RV park pilot projects have been rolled out at Pantai Hiburan in Rompin, Pahang, and at Pantai Bagan Lalang in Sepang.
The Rompin project launched on June 29 while the Sepang project launched on September 21 this year, both implemented in collaboration with local councils.
Three additional locations have been identified for future RV park development, according to the deputy minister.
These include Pantai Cahaya in Port Dickson, Taman Tasik Seremban in Negeri Sembilan, and Pantai Teluk Marina in Kemaman, Terengganu.
Responding to Kalam’s suggestion to consult the Malaysian Camper Van and Motorhome Association, she confirmed discussions had already taken place.
“The guidelines we mentioned earlier take into account aspects such as RV plot sizes and mandatory facilities, including fire safety equipment,” she said.
On location selection criteria, she cited accessibility and risk levels as primary considerations when choosing pilot sites.
She emphasized that expanding RV tourism prospects requires cooperation across multiple ministries beyond her own department.
This includes collaboration with the Transport Ministry, Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, and Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry. – Bernama
