Malaysians urged to safeguard harmony, avoid sensitive issues

Minister Aaron Ago Dagang calls for unity and dialogue to protect national harmony, urging Malaysians to reject racism and respect diversity

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians have been urged to preserve the harmony and spirit of togetherness that forms the bedrock of the nation’s strength.

Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said this is especially crucial as the world faces various challenges that could potentially undermine societal unity.

He stressed that the people should not allow sensitive issues related to religion, race, and the royal institution, including racist sentiments, to fracture long-established relationships.

“Malaysia stands strong because of the diversity of its people. We are stronger when we are together,” he said in a Facebook post.

He added that togetherness means mutual understanding, respect, acceptance, and celebrating the differences that make the country unique.

Aaron stated that if differences in opinion arise, avenues for dialogue and negotiation are always available to all parties.

However, he emphasised these avenues must be utilised with wisdom and maturity, not with emotion.

“Let us choose the path of wisdom, reject hatred, and continue to preserve the spirit of togetherness,” he urged.

He concluded by reminding the public that Malaysia is a shared home to be built, cared for, and passed on to future generations.
