Malaysia’s Madani government commits to Sarawak’s inclusive development

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim outlines the Madani government’s commitment to Sarawak’s wellbeing through strategic investments, MA63 implementation and green energy leadership.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Madani Government remains committed to driving the wellbeing of Sarawak’s people through strategic investments and inclusive economic development.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said full commitment was also being given to implementing the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and ensuring fair management of oil and gas resources.

“Every initiative is planned and implemented to build a more advanced, sustainable and prosperous Sarawak,” he said in a Facebook post.

He stated that real transformation for Sarawak is underway, with the state identified as a main focus of national development.

This has been demonstrated through his regular visits and the signing of global investment memoranda of understanding.

Sarawak’s green energy economy is expanding with projects like the RM184 million Batang Ai Floating Solar initiative.

Investments from Japan, South Korea and Europe in the green hydrogen sector are further bolstering this growth.

Anwar noted that investments in international logistics, data centres and artificial intelligence have strengthened Sarawak’s position as Asia-Pacific’s green investment gateway.

In the oil and gas sector, the role of Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (PETROS) has been strengthened through collaboration with Petronas.

This collaboration opens opportunities for new exploration, gas development and clearer revenue-sharing arrangements to boost state revenue.

Sarawak’s green hydrogen projects have been recognised as leading in Asia, positioning the state as Malaysia’s future energy powerhouse.

Strategic industrial development has opened more job opportunities in sectors like green energy, semiconductors and aerospace.

Development of people-centric facilities has also been a key priority, with expanded housing programmes and home financing schemes.

Assistance under the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah initiatives has helped ease cost-of-living pressures, particularly in rural areas.

Efforts to empower Sarawak’s rights under MA63 have been accelerated through federal-state negotiations.

This includes restructuring powers in education and health, and increased special allocations to the state.

Anwar concluded that Sarawak is becoming increasingly progressive under the slogan “Sarawak Makmur, Malaysia Sejahtera”.
