Missing technician swept away at Jeram Besu found drowned

A 25-year-old technician missing after being swept away at Jeram Besu recreational area in Raub has been found drowned, with search hampered by monsoon conditions.

KUANTAN: A technician who went missing after being swept away by strong currents while bathing at the Jeram Besu recreational area in Raub has been found drowned.

The body of Mohamat Firdarus Jamaidi, 25, was located by the search and rescue team at 3.40 pm today about 700 metres from the incident location at Lubuk Biara.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Mohd Salahuddin Isa said the body was handed over to the police for further investigation.

He stated the SAR operation was hampered by high water levels, strong currents, limited visibility and unstable weather conditions.

Mohd Salahuddin advised the public to remain cautious when engaging in activities at rivers, beaches and open waters during the northeast monsoon.

The monsoon may cause sudden rises in water levels and dangerous currents.

Media reports said the victim had visited the recreational area with his wife before being swept away while bathing on Thursday.
