MyKasih upgrades system to ensure smooth SARA rollout

MyKasih Foundation boosts bandwidth for SARA for All programme to prevent system disruptions, as minister warns of festive season scams

KUALA LUMPUR: The MyKasih Foundation has upgraded its system and increased bandwidth capacity to ensure the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) for All programme runs smoothly from tomorrow.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the move was based on past experience to prevent system disruptions on the rollout date.

“He also informed that MyKasih, which manages the database, has increased bandwidth to ensure there are no problems when SARA for All begins tomorrow,” Fahmi said at a press conference after launching the 2026 Safer Internet Day.

The SARA for All programme provides a one-off RM100 assistance via MyKad to Malaysians aged 18 and above.

The funds can be used to purchase essential items at selected outlets until December 31.

Fahmi also reminded the public to remain vigilant against online scams during festive seasons like Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

He cautioned that scammers often take advantage of higher cash withdrawals and online spending during these periods.

“If you receive an SMS containing a hyperlink, do not click on it,” he warned.

Fahmi advised scam victims to immediately report the matter to the National Scam Response Centre via the 24-hour hotline at 997.

“If a report is made within 30 minutes, we will do our utmost to block the outflow of funds and help recover the victim’s money,” he said.

On whether the government plans to introduce a specific law for artificial intelligence apps, Fahmi said this falls under the Digital Ministry’s jurisdiction.

“We will examine the matter and take appropriate action, but at this time, there is no specific law in place,” he added.
