National Ageing Blueprint: Senior citizens to hit 14% of population by 2048

JPA launches blueprint and MyPesara Awards to address ageing nation’s needs through digitalisation and community engagement.

KOTA BHARU: Senior citizens are projected to constitute 14% of Malaysia’s population by 2048, according to Public Service Department Pensions Division director Datuk Mohd Shahrim Hussin.

He revealed the government has launched the National Ageing Blueprint 2025–2045 to address the impact of an ageing nation through a lifelong approach.

“This blueprint emphasises six key areas – economy, employment, education, social protection, health, and long-term care,” he said at the MyPesara Awards 2025 ceremony.

Mohd Shahrim stated the blueprint serves as JPA’s guide in efforts to improve service delivery to pensioners nationwide.

Through digitalisation of pension processes and inter-agency cooperation, JPA aims to ensure every pensioner receives benefits quickly and efficiently.

Commenting on the carnival and awards ceremony, he said the initiative reflects JPA’s commitment to engaging the pensioner community more holistically.

“MyPesara Carnival enables us to connect directly with pensioners nationwide,” he added.

The MyPesara Awards 2025 recognised public sector pensioners who made positive impacts in education, social service, and entrepreneurship.

Wan Noriah Wan Ramli, 69, founder of Min House Camp, won the Social and Community Service category with RM60,000 in prize money.

Dr Abas Mazni Othman, founder of The Plot, won the Entrepreneurship category, while Professor Emeritus Dr Mohamad Mokhtar Abu Hassan was recognised in education.

The three-day carnival featured activities promoting active ageing, financial empowerment, and community well-being in line with MADANI principles. – Bernama
