Negeri Sembilan records over 27,000 burst pipe cases since 2021

Negeri Sembilan recorded 27,279 burst pipe cases since 2021, costing RM147 million in repairs, with Seremban district the worst affected

SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan has recorded 27,279 cases of burst pipes from 2021 until October this year.

The data was logged through the Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan (SAINS) complaint registration system.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said Seremban district recorded the highest number with 11,059 cases.

Other affected districts include Kuala Pilah (3,928), Jempol (3,050), Tampin (2,913), Port Dickson (2,554), Jelebu (2,247) and Rembau (1,528).

The total expenditure for repairs over the period is estimated at RM147 million.

This cost covers repair works, pipe replacement, and road surface rehabilitation.

“The level of pipe damage involves categories of minor leak, joint failure and main burst, depending on the location and pressure of the channel,” said Aminuddin.

He explained repair work uses materials like mild steel (MSCL) pipes and UPVC pipes suited to the location’s water pressure.

Aminuddin was responding to a question from assemblyman Chew Seh Yong in the state legislative assembly.

For each burst pipe case, immediate action involves temporarily shutting off the water supply.

Repair work is then carried out with water supply restored in stages to minimise consumer disruption.

A total of 68 locations involving 243 kilometres of pipes have been identified for replacement.

This is a collaboration between the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) and SAINS.

Pipe replacement through SAINS’ own allocation involves 12 locations spanning 14.2 kilometres.

The PAAB allocation covers 16 locations involving 60.8 kilometres of pipes.

The PETRA allocation involves 40 locations for a total length of 168 kilometres of pipe replacements. – Bernama
