A newborn infant was discovered alive at Teluk Likas Public Park, with police investigating under the Penal Code and appealing for information.
KOTA KINABALU: A newborn baby boy was found alive at Teluk Likas Public Park yesterday morning.
The infant, believed to be only hours old, was discovered at about 6.30 am following a public report.
Kota Kinabalu police chief ACP Kasim Muda (pic) said the baby was found safe and without any injuries.
An ambulance was dispatched to take the infant to Likas Hospital for a medical examination.
“Checks at the scene found no witnesses and no closed-circuit television cameras in the area,” Kasim said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandonment of a child.
Police are working to identify and trace those responsible for the incident.
The Social Welfare Department has been notified to follow up on the infant’s welfare.
Kasim urged anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.
