Perak launches feeder mapping app for data-driven stray animal control

Perak introduces a feeder mapping programme and app to target stray animal hotspots, offering subsidised sterilisation coupons to improve management

IPOH: The Perak government will implement a Feeder Mapping programme to strengthen stray animal management using a data-driven approach.

State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching said the initiative aims to identify feeding hotspots for more targeted sterilisation and monitoring.

“The Feeder Mapping programme is important to ensure that stray animal management initiatives are carried out based on accurate data and specific locations, thereby helping to reduce uncontrolled breeding,” she said.

The programme is open to feeders, NGOs, volunteers and individuals involved in animal welfare.

It will launch on December 28 at the closing ceremony of the Perak Pawsitive Initiative 2025 at the Menglembu Animal Clinic.

Feeders attending the briefing will receive a subsidised RM50 sterilisation coupon.

These coupons are redeemable at four partner veterinary clinics from February 1 to July 31, 2026.

A dedicated Feeder Mapping application will also be launched to enhance digital coordination and planning.

Ng invited the public and animal owners to join the subsidised sterilisation campaign and mapping effort.

This collective action supports the Perak Sejahtera 2030 vision for a safer, more harmonious community.

The Perak Pawsitive Initiative aims to sterilise 1,000 animals in 2025 through five sessions.

The fifth session will be held on December 27 and 28 at the Menglembu Animal Clinic.

Subsidised rates are set at RM100 for dogs and RM80 for cats, with the state covering the remaining cost.

Registration is available via a QR code on the programme’s official poster.

Ng added that a proposed microchipping programme is undergoing legal review.

Local authorities are studying its incorporation as a requirement under dog licensing by-laws. – Bernama
