PM Anwar praises para athletes’ spirit after Malaysia’s APG success

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim commends Malaysian para athletes for their fighting spirit and discipline after the team finished third overall at the ASEAN Para Games 2025.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has commended the fighting spirit of Malaysia’s para athletes for their performance at the ASEAN Para Games (APG) 2025.

In a Facebook post, Anwar expressed pride in the athletes who moved the country up to third place overall at the games in Thailand.

He said he was moved by their determination to pursue dreams without allowing limitations to become an excuse.

“My highest appreciation goes to all the country’s para athletes who have brought honour to Malaysia at the ASEAN Para Games Thailand 2025,” he said.

“Thank you for reminding us all of the true meaning of effort, discipline and self-confidence. Congratulations, national heroes!”

The national contingent concluded the games with a total haul of 201 medals.

This comprised 64 golds, 64 silvers and 73 bronzes across 17 sports, surpassing the pre-Games targets of 55 golds and 181 medals.

Malaysia moved up one spot to third place overall in an increasingly competitive field.

Thailand dominated as overall champions with 486 medals, including 175 golds.

Indonesia finished second with 392 medals, including 135 golds.
