National doubles star Aaron Chia says the German Open is the ideal platform to fine-tune their game ahead of the prestigious All England tournament.

KUALA LUMPUR: National men’s doubles top player Aaron Chia believes the German Open will be a crucial platform to fine-tune their game ahead of the prestigious All England.

The tournament in Mulheim an der Ruhr from Feb 24-March 1 precedes the All England in Birmingham from March 3-8.

With a longer training period and a warm-up event ahead of the German Open, Aaron believes the build-up will be beneficial for him and partner Soh Wooi Yik.

“Before the All England, we have the German Open first. So, we will take that chance at the German Open as a sufficient warm-up for the All England,” he told reporters after a training session.

Aaron, who became All England runners-up twice with Wooi Yik in 2019 and 2024, said the Super 1000 tournament has never been an easy target.

He said this is because the conditions and environment in Europe demand constant adjustment every year.

“It’s not easy to target or be consistent with the gameplay. It’s not easy because when we arrive in Europe, there are many things we have to adjust to,” he said.

Aaron also acknowledged the importance of maintaining a balanced approach between physical conditioning and on-court training.

He said while the coaching staff have their own perspective, the 2022 world champions understand the adjustments required to raise their performance level.
