Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim calls for higher efficiency and integrity from Customs and enforcement agencies, despite record RM76.18 billion revenue collection.
CYBERJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Royal Malaysian Customs Department personnel and other enforcement agencies to continuously improve their performance and integrity.
He stated that encouraging economic growth and a strengthening ringgit were insufficient to elevate Malaysia’s dignity and position.
“I know that we have a higher capability. Many serve with distinction, but some still tarnish our integrity,” Anwar said during the 44th International Customs Day celebration.
He emphasised that a change in attitude and a willingness to adopt new realities were crucial for national progress.
Anwar added that every civil servant must realise there is always room for improvement.
He cited the teachings of Nabi Muhammad SAW on doing one’s best as a guideline for improving work efficiency.
The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for the enforcement agencies’ outstanding achievements last year.
The Customs Department recorded a revenue collection of RM76.18 billion, surpassing the Ministry of Finance’s RM67.25 billion target.
