The Kuala Lumpur Community Welfare Movement calls for an end to racial criticism of the new Federal Territories Minister, urging focus on her performance and ability to solve city issues.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Community Welfare Movement (PMKL) has urged all parties to give newly appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh the opportunity to prove her capability.
PMKL chairman Hussen Zulkarai said racial issues should not be raised following Yeoh’s appointment.
He stressed any assessment should be based on her performance and ability to resolve issues affecting Federal Territories residents.
“Why is the appointment of YB Hannah Yeoh as Federal Territories Minister being made an issue when she has not even started working yet?” he told reporters.
He said such perceptions were premature and would not help resolve issues faced by the people.
Hussen said attention should instead focus on long-standing problems in Kuala Lumpur.
These include traffic congestion, parking management, public housing and urban cleanliness.
PMKL deputy chairman Affa Syarifuddin said relevant parties must implement proactive measures.
He called on Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and mayor Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud to resolve major issues plaguing the capital.
Affa expressed concerns over privately owned buildings that are dirty and poorly maintained.
He also highlighted the problem of abandoned vehicles in parking areas around the capital. “We urge DBKL to enforce the law and take firm action,” he added.
