Kemaman police issue a stern reminder to fireworks traders after a stall fire, stating that permits will be revoked for any breach of safety conditions
CHUKAI: Police have issued a stern warning to fireworks and firecracker traders, stating that their sales permits will be revoked if they fail to comply with strict safety conditions.
This reminder follows a fire at a fireworks stall in Kampung Gong Limau yesterday.
Kemaman district police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the conditions include having a safe storage area and a valid vendor licence from local authorities.
“Permits to sell fireworks and firecrackers will be revoked if traders do not comply with the imposed conditions,” he said in a statement today.
He confirmed that the stall involved in yesterday’s incident had a valid permit for festive sales.
Preliminary investigations indicate the fire started after the vendor left to buy food for sahur at a nearby eatery.
The case is being investigated under Section 285 of the Penal Code for negligence with fire or flammable materials.
“The sales permit can be revoked if it is found that there was an element of negligence on the part of the trader that led to the incident,” Mohd Razi added.
The owner and two workers have been called to give statements to assist the investigation.
Police are working to identify the exact cause of the fire and determine further action.
Residents reported hearing a loud explosion during the blaze at approximately 4.15 am yesterday.
