Port Dickson’s Sungai Sekawang a hidden gem for anglers and tourism

Port Dickson’s Sungai Sekawang beach, a biodiversity hotspot, hosts a surfcasting challenge to boost tourism for Visit Negeri Sembilan Year 2026.

PORT DICKSON: The waters off Sungai Sekawang in Batu 15 here are set to host the 2025 Port Dickson Surfcasting Challenge this Sunday. The event is expected to attract over 500 anglers for the first time, boosting promotion for Visit Negeri Sembilan Year 2026.

State Heritage, Technology, Innovation and Digital Action Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli said the beach is a hidden tourism gem rich in biodiversity. He said its unique seabed combination makes it a prime fishing spot, attracting enthusiasts nationwide.

“The sea here is home to many types of fish, including siakap (barramundi), senangin (threadfin), stingray, gelama (croaker/drumfish), grouper, sembilang (catfish) and duri (thornfish),” he said in a statement.

He added the initiative also promotes Visit Malaysia Year 2026. The organisation of such events opens opportunities for local economic development, introducing rural areas as nature-based tourism products.

Mohd Faizal said the state is actively identifying more ‘hidden gem’ locations like Batu 15 for the VNSY 2026 campaign. The campaign emphasises ecotourism, heritage and family recreation.

Port Dickson is renowned for its beautiful beaches, friendly community and seafood abundance. This makes it an ideal destination for fishing, camping, photography and nature-based tourism.

The Surfcasting Challenge offers cash prizes exceeding RM25,000. The winner will take home RM10,000, with RM3,000 for second place and RM1,000 for third.
