A special task force will monitor the RM2.7 billion Gedong road projects to ensure timely completion and resolve land issues, says Deputy Premier Douglas Uggah.
KUCHING: The Sarawak State Government will form a special task force to oversee the implementation of road infrastructure projects worth about RM2.7 billion in the Gedong area.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the task force aims to ensure timely completion and resolve issues promptly.
He said the task force will be chaired by his deputy, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, and will hold regular meetings to monitor progress.
Uggah, who is also State Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, said close coordination with relevant departments and contractors is crucial.
“JKRS and MIPD teams are committed to monitoring these projects very closely to ensure they are completed as planned,” he told reporters after inspecting the projects.
He said daily and monthly meetings have been directed at the implementation level, with progress reports submitted to him every two months.
The Gedong road projects involve three major developments comprising 10 construction packages.
These include five packages under the Serian–Gedong–Samarahan Highway and two for upgrading Jalan Gedong–Simunjan.
Three packages are for the proposed Jalan Gedong–Semalatong, with contractors already mobilised at several sites.
The projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity and spur economic activity.
They will also enhance the quality of life for residents in Gedong and surrounding areas.
